Total Lunar Eclipse of October 8, 2014 For almost an hour on October 8, 2014, the moon will be totally eclipsed. Most of the Pacific Ocean and the islands in it will get a view of the entire event. Part of the event will be visibile from many places in Asia, Australia, and the Americas. That's if the weather allows, of course!
The clock above is in Universal Time. Universal Time (UT) is the time zone astronomers use when communicating about astronomical events and when they happen. To find out how far ahead or behind UT you are, you can compare the time on the clock above to what time it is where you are. If you happen to be in the Universal Time Zone, you won't need to make any adjustment at all. However, you won't be fortunate enough to view this eclipse, because it isn't visible there. |
This table shows the times of the eclipse phases in some major cities and a few smaller ones around the world using the time zones and summer time shifts expected to be in effect when the eclipse happens. You may find this table useful in converting the event times to your time zone. Be sure to identify a city that is in the same time zone. Also be careful about those seasonal time shifts. Not all places do them at the same time. Some don't do them at all. Finally, if at your location the moon rises or sets between any of the event times, you'll miss part of the eclipse. You can check on that with the map above. The 24-hour time system is used below. Universal Time is included for reference only. This eclipse will not actually be visible there. |
